São Tomé and Príncipe

The Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe has been a FiTI Candidate Country since December 2023.

Fish is the main source of protein for the people of Sao Tome and Principe, a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) in the Gulf of Guinea, over 200 km off the coast of Gabon.

Fisheries in the country is exclusively artisanal and largely focused on small pelagics, providing jobs for thousands of people and representing a crucial revenue source for low-income families.

Candidate application

The FiTI International Board approved São Tomé and Príncipe’s Candidate application on 7 December 2023. The official documents were submitted by Mr João Gomes Pessoa Lima on 2 December 2023.


FiTI Reports

São Tomé and Príncipe’s first FiTI Report, covering calendar year 2023, is due by end of December 2024.
